DVD X Player allows users to watch DVDs from any region of the world without a DVD player! Movies from various countries may be released in very different formats that will only play on DVD players from that region of the world. If you buy movies in the UK, for example, they will not play on the DVD player you have hooked up to your television in the United States. This simple and easy to use program turns your computer into a region-free DVD player that will allow you to play thousands of movies.

While some people might think that they do not need a region-free DVD player, you might change your mind after you learn how film companies work. Film companies and studios in the United States often block the import of particular movies. For example, Sony purchased the rights to the Spanish horror film "Rec" and remade the movie as "Quarantine." As the new film was a shot for shot remake, Sony did not want to risk ruining the film by allowing North Americans to view the original. Accordingly, Sony would not permit the manufacture of "Rec" DVDs that would play on American players. Those with region-free players, however, were able to watch the original.

DVD X Player is as easy to use as the DVD player currently installed on your computer. Simply insert a disc and close the drive for the program to pop up and start the film. If the DVD lacks any type of coding, the program may ask you which region the DVD comes from and automatically adjust the settings to play that film. Once it starts playing, you can use the controls on the screen in the same way you would use your DVD remote control. Adjust the volume, skip to a new chapter, go back to a previous chapter, return to the main menu and rewind or fast forward with one touch.

Unlike other programs that only let you play DVDs, this program allows you to play videos in formats that your computer would not otherwise support. You can watch videos and DVDs in .vob, .avi, .mvb, .mpg, .ac3 and dozens of other formats. How many times have you found a great video that you wanted to watch but your computer could not decipher the extension type? Instead of downloading multiple video viewers and extension format viewers, you can use this single program to watch all your favorite films and videos.

The only problem that you may encounter is that DVD X Player detects movies in your DVD drive and starts those films without your approval. That one minor issue is worth it though. This program turns your computer into a region-free DVD player that will let you play discs made in the United States, UK, Japan and many other countries.
